Adler's third major area is that of love and marriage tasks. At the age of 26, Ansel married Virginia Best, after an on again, off again relationship that lasted six years. Four years later their first child was born and a couple of years after that, their second child. Even in marriage the Adams did not follow the traditional path. Ansel was off much of the time, with his work. He travelled extensively in search of projects, assignments and causes. Their first child arrived and Ansel got to the hospital the next day. While rearing the children, Virginia remained in Yosemite at Best Studios, formerly her father's business. Virginia and Ansel built on this and Virginia stayed behind to raise the children and manage the studio, and even occasionally collaborated with her husband, as in a children's guide book to Yosemite.
